- Join us for a night with three UI/UX experts for an interactive panel discussion! Learn about how UX and UI collaborate on products to create engaging experiences and continue bringing more business value to the users. We will hear about their opinions on the future of UX/UI, the amazing opportunities and unique challenges in this field, their individual career journeys and more.
- There will be a networking session towards the end of the event, come join us to connect with a community of tech enthusiasts!
Panelist: Loc Nguyen
Loc is a professional designer with over 20 years of experience. He holds a M.A in Interactive media, and a B.S in Computer science. He has worked for software companies, advertising agencies, educational institution and game companies. Currently, Loc is the manager of User Experience team at ACL. He is passionate about leadership, mentoring and helping other people to find, define their career path.
Panelist: Michael Hunt
Dr. Michael Hunt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at UBC. He isalso the Chair of the Graduate Programs in Rehabilitation Sciences, and the Director of the Motion Analysis and Biofeedback Laboratory at UBC Hospital. His research interests lie in the development and evaluation of biomechanical-based, non-surgical and non-pharmacological treatment for musculoskeletal and neuromuscular impairments. A particular emphasis of his program is the utilization of wearable technology to assess and track abnormal movement patterns in real-world settings, and to integrate feedback of movement performance for the purposes of movement retraining in clinical and non-clinical settings.
Panelist: Mary Ngo
Mary is a Product Designer at Wiivv who champions whimsy and delightful user interactions. Her most exciting work at Wiivv so far is contributing to the launch of the Dr. Scholl’s 3D Inserts app and web experience. Over the past few of years, she has transitioned from doing graphic design to diving deep into user-centered design and shipping product features. She graduated from the Interactive Arts and Technology program at SFU. Sometimes she spends her days illustrating feet (for work, duh) and she’s a fan of potatoes.
Panelist: Thomas Girard
Thomas Girard is an award-winning designer and scholar, who has lived and worked in New Delhi, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, London, and Vancouver. Often known as an Instructor at his alma mater, Emily Carr University of Art and Design, he’s mainly taught as part of the pioneering effort, Interaction Design Essentials.

Design Lab is a tech community organization solving problems in different areas using technology. We recently produced lumohacks, a 500-person hackathon in Vancouver, to improve the lives of people facing mental health challenges, and we are currently looking at solving healthcare problems using technology.
